Who We Are

The Teaching + Learning Commons’ Engaged Teaching Hub is one of six units in the Commons. Engaged Teaching Hub promotes faculty and student success through programs and resources that support faculty and graduate student instructors in their teaching roles.

The Engaged Teaching team collaborates with UC San Diego educators: departments, faculty, and graduate student instructors to design student-centered, evidence-based learning experiences in the classrooms and in other learning spaces. At the center of this work is the framework of Teaching for Social Justice.

  • Collaboration is promoted through interdisciplinary and discipline-specific workshops, through educators learning from each other about teaching practices that support student learning, and in individual confidential consultations by identifying teaching strategies that improve instruction and learning.
  • Evidence-Based practices, informed by the scholarship of teaching and learning and discipline-based educational research, are integrated into our work. We support educators in the design of learning assessments and formal scholarly research studies on teaching and learning.
  • Student-Centered approach focuses on the whole student with an asset-based lens to support students and their learning trajectory at UC San Diego and beyond. Realized through the integrated work of the six hubs in the Commons, this involves harnessing students’ strengths, interests, and motivations.
